Since I forgot to include the "Sacred/Gospel" category in my

'Music Genre(s) Played on the Arranger Poll',

and because it's not possible to amend an existing poll, I've included a special poll for it below.

Your vote 'counts', so please don't forget to vote in both of these polls. Thanks. smile
"Sacred/Gospel" Genre Arranger Player:
Only one choice allowed

Votes accepted starting: 01/29/11 08:00 AM
You must vote before you can view the results of this poll.

Hi Graham, after everyone's had a chance to vote, I'll incoporate the yes votes for this "sacred/gospel" category with the other song genres in the other "Music Genre Played" poll. cool

Hi Graham,

There's really not much interest world wide (at least on the forums) for "Sacred/Gospel" music. Even though the description is new to me - I'm still used to P&W music.

But really, this should come as no surprise.

Keep well my friend,
Henni

No such terminology in OZ that I know of but, yes to P&W or Comtemporary Christian music. Sacred Gospel/ Country Gospel or Sacred Steel etc are not used here at all.

Hi Henni/ tassiespirit, I apologise if I contributed to the confusion. I use the term as defined by wikipedia:

"Gospel music is music that is written to express either personal, spiritual or a communal belief regarding Christian life, as well as (in terms of the varying music styles) to give a Christian alternative to mainstream secular music.

Like other forms of Christian music, the creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. However, a common theme of most gospel music is praise, worship or thanks to God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit."

I believe Scott was trying to be more inclusive by adding "sacred".

I know there's a Gospel Association of Australia, and I'm sure Hillsong, one my favorite publishers, would recognize the term.

Blessings Guys, we need to make sure our genre is properly represented, so vote yes.

Thats cool, no need to apologise here, as it is just terminology anyway. But, Christian music is named differently in different Christian circles. Even the word secular means "of the times" not as some think " non Christian or worldly".

The Gospel or Country Gospel genre is a wonderful form , so is sacred steel or Southern Gospel, and are fearsly defended by the practitioners’of that style.

The styles in the arranger whatever model or maker only states "Gospel" not P & W and are not applicable for playing at most Christian churches that play in the P&W style that's all ( that's why the clarification).

But, yes I did mark the poll as playing Sacred/Gospel anyway.....:)

Oh, I understand your point now, and agree. I rarely use the Gospel styles too, neither when I was a Music Director of an Episcopal church nor for some of the oldies that I play in Care Facilities.

Yamaha have some useful Worship styles, that I miss now playing Korg Pa2X.

I simply added this category on this separate thread because I forgot to include it in the music genre section of this other poll thread. The purpose of this poll is to find out how many people enjoy playing religious, gospel, sacred aka worship and prayer music. The only reason I had to create two entry choices is because I was under the impression that polls allow a minimum of two selection choices. The total number of "yes" votes is the relevant one to use to integrate with the other music genres choices in the 'music genre' poll.

In light of the complaints by Jorgen and Semilive, perhaps consolidating this thread together with the other thread now, might be a good idea, but only Nigel can do this. Man, there sure seems to be a lot negative energy on the forum in the last 24 hours. Are the stars out of alignment today or something? You guys need to lighten up a bit. I initiated the polls because I had thought the membership would find them fun, informative, and useful. How do others feel?

Well, all I can say, Scott, is keep up the good work.

In regards to the recent seeming negativity...I suppose some people seem to go through life standing at the complaint counter.

I remember this saying from a friend in AA (he was not the author)

"You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses."

The polls have been very informative, both for SZ'ers and perhaps also for any manufacturer's reps who may be lurking.

Hi

I was NOT negative.
I just found it a bit strange that the front page in this forum was filled with stationary subjects. (Polls and explanation about forum features).

My intention was to get a BETTER forum!

Best wishes
Jørgen

PS:
Personally I dont care for polls. Is this negative? I think not. It is an opinion.

PPS:
Scott, dont get me wrong: You are a great guy, but we just dont have the same opinion on this.

Wasn't it Donald Rumsfeld who said if you're not being criticized you're not doing anything!

I understand your point of view. But you must realize the initial stickies regarding the forum features were necessary when the software had changed after 12 years. I needed to make people aware of how to use the new forum so they wouldn't get confused. It's not like they were permanent.

This poll was just an addendum to Scott's other poll because he forgot to include this category that someone wanted.

Jorgen, no worries my friend. smile My issues re: negatism were't specifically directed at you, but comments made by others on other recent threads as well, where there seems to be a new found (s)nippy-ness in the air, perhaps the result of having had to endure an unusually cold winter. It's raining here in San Francisco today, but sunny and clear weather's predicted for this weekend's Chinese New Year Parade. 'Gung Hay Fat Choy' to all. cool

Wish I could be there right now.
It has been a long winter in Denmark. Snow began Nov. 24; and we had a lot of snow, wind and cold in the beginning of this week. No more snow in the next week; but very cold and some wind. :-((

Best wishes

Jorgen, just in case you didn't see it, you can easily change the number of posts that show on the front page. You can also just call up new posts.
BTW, thanks for all your hard work on your forum.

I know. My point was: "Why is all the VISIBLE space at the front page occupied by stationary subjects?"

I have noticed Nigel have removed some of these subjects now! Thanks.

I have made my point now, therefore EOD from me!

Best wishes
Jørgen

PS: Thanks for your last comment! Warms my heart!
